Collector's Corner - Mano

Tuesday, 20 May 2014 10:08:00 Europe/London

Welcome back to Collectors Corner where we're going to go 'Mano a Mano' with the Legion of Superheroes villain Mano. Aptly named after the Portuguese phrase for hand to hand combat this villain doesn't need weapons as his mutation allows his right hand to disintegrate anything he touches with his antimatter power.

Mano's power is so great that after feeling like he was mistreated by his people he strained his power to the max and destroying the entire planet. Mano can't survive on most other planets without wearing an environmental suit which encases his entire body including his head.

The villain has teamed up with the Legion of Superheroes in the past when they needed some help to take down the Sun-eater, though Mano mostly spends his time with the Fatal Five a group of super villains in the 30th century.

Collector's Corner - Bizarro

Thursday, 27 March 2014 10:08:00 Europe/London

Welcome back to Collector's Corner and the first review from the recently released Superman and the Legion of Superheroes (SLOSH) set! Today we're taking a look at the evil dopplegänger of the Man of Steel himself, Bizarro.

There have been many iterations of the character throughout the history of DC comics but there's no doubt that this is the Bizarro created during the Emperor Joker storyline. Brought into being by the Joker with the powers Mxyzptlk, Bizarro was originally created to be the greatest hero of the Jokers twisted new world. After the Joker was defeated the world he made was destroyed but Mr. Mxyzptlk rescued some elements, one of which was Bizarro. Now set loose on the DC universe proper Bizarro usually sets out to do good, but using his childlike logic often ends up creating even more trouble for the heroes. His erratic behaviour is especially dangerous because he possesses many of Supermans powers!

Collector's Corner - Trinity of Sin

Tuesday, 21 January 2014 10:08:00 Europe/London

Welcome to the very first Collector's Corner of 2014! To kick off the new year we've got something pretty special to review, the Trinity of Sin convention exclusive team base featuring Pandora, the Question and Phantom Stranger. This piece has been a huge hit in competitive play so let's see what all the fuss it about.

Fans of collectors corner might have realised by now that I'm a big DC fan but ever since the big shake up with the New 52 Wizkids haven't really released any special edition Heroclix from the DC universe, especially if you're not that big of a fan of Batman. With each Marvel set that's been announced I've been getting more and more envious of figures like Giant-Man, the Fear Itself line and the Mandarin power rings, oh and don't get me started on the Avengers vs X-Men organised play figures! So when the Trinity of Sin team base was first announced I knew I had to get my hands on one.

Collector's Corner - Cyclops

Thursday, 5 December 2013 10:08:00 Europe/London

Welcome back to Collector's Corner, this time we'll be taking a look at one of the leaders of the X-Men, though he has taken a turn for the worse recently, Cyclops, who like Gambit (who we looked at last time) can be used on the X-Men: Blue Strike Force team base.

Cyclops is the brother of Havok, another figure we looked at not too long ago, de facto leader of the X-Men in the absence of Charles Xavier and all around good guy... mostly. In the recent Avengers vs X-Men storyline Cyclops was responsible for the death of Professor X after letting the power of the phoenix force go to his head, ever since he has switch roles with Wolverine to be the kind of man who does whatever's necessary compared to Wolverine taking a more passive role in the 'war against humanity.'

Collector's Corner - Gambit

Tuesday, 5 November 2013 10:08:00 Europe/London

Welcome back to Collector's Corner where we're taking a look at one of the X-Men: Blue Strike Force team base figures, Gambit!

Gambit is one of those modern characters who, like Deadpool, has really caught the imagination of comic book readers and becoming a fan favourite in a very short amount of time, even reaching 65th on IGN's list of Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time. The character was first introduced in 1990 by legendary creators Chris Claremont and Jim Lee.

Originally called Remy LeBeau Gambit has a slew of powers ranging from imbuing objects, like playing cards, with kinetic force that explode on contact, to his hypnotic charm that works on anyone who doesn't know about it, perfect in his previous profession as a thief.

Collector's Corner - Havok

Sunday, 6 October 2013 10:08:00 Europe/London

Welcome back to another edition of Collector's Corner where we'll be taking a look at Havok from the Wolverine and the X-Men set.

Better know as Cyclops' younger brother, Havok has recently been launched into the limelight after his older brother's fall from grace during 'Avengers Vs. X-Men' leading to Havok taking over as the new 'spokesman' for the mutant race as the leader of the Uncanny Avengers.

Havok, whose real name is Alex Summers, also featured in 'X-Men: First Class,' though with a drastically different costume reminiscent of the original X-Men in the comics, and is due to make a return in the sequel 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.'

Collector's Corner - Colossus

Wednesday, 18 September 2013 10:08:00 Europe/London

Hey guys and welcome back to Collector's Corner where we're taking a look at the first of our Wolverine and the X-Men figures non other than Piotr Rasputin, better know as the armoured mutant Colossus.

I've been looking forward to the WatXm set for a while now, I'm a huge fan of the Jim Lee inspired costume designs Wizkids have highlighted in their sculpts, the designs also harken back to the X-Men cartoon from the 90s giving these figures that extra nostalgia factor.

Colossus has been a mainstay of the X-Men universe ever since his first appearance in Giant-Size X-Men #1 in 1975, proving to be an invaluable member of the team with his superhuman strength, organic steel skin and willingness to sacrifice himself for the benefit of others.

Collector's Corner - TT Red Hood

Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:08:00 Europe/London

We wait ages for a Jason Todd Red Hood figure and then two great ones come along at once! The last one we looked at, from the Streets of Gotham set, received 4.5/5 so can this one do that little bit better and join the ranks of perfect scoring figures?

The Red Hood and the Outlaws comic might be going through some hard times at the moment under than hands of scribe James Tynion IV and artist Julius Gopez so it's good to see his Heroclix counterpart getting some well deserved attention.

Collector's Corner - Changeling

Monday, 5 August 2013 10:08:00 Europe/London

Welcome back to another Collector's Corner! Beast Boy fans have really been having their cake and eating it lately when it comes to Heroclix, the character has had no less than 9 figures in the past few sets. Naturally for a shape shifter these figures have come in a few different guises from Pterydon and T-Rex to Bear and Dolphin all held together by a brilliant game mechanic that allows players to switch the figures on the playing field as Beast Boy takes shape. Today we're taking a look at the Changeling figure from the Teen Titans set, which may have a different name but is just another form that Beast Boy takes on.
