UK Heroclix Nationals 2015

So after a bunch of qualifying events and a few practice games it was time for the UK Nationals, held again at the Game Expo in Birmingham. This time I was better prepared. I knew where things were, I had some cool teams and I was looking forwards to playing some fun games. Being already qualified meant I could relax for at least a couple of days and just enjoy playing (though I was also really looking forwards to the finals themselves). My target for the weekend was simple: Get into the top 8 of the Nationals and impress/confuse people with my choice of team. Now given how late this is you may already know the result of this but I’ll make at least some attempt at suspense!

I have one other confession – my notes for this event were in the same place as those for the last qualifier –that is to say misplaced during a house move. As a result I’m missing a few names. Apologies if one of these is you.

The Nationals Weekend games

Just a quick update on the structure of the event. The finals themselves would be held on Sunday. Friday and Saturday would be two large events, the top 8 of each would qualify for the finals themselves (32 people cutting down to a top 8). Friday would be sealed with Avengers Assemble, Saturday and the finals themselves would be Modern Age. In the case of somebody like me who was already qualified doing well in one of these events the spot would pass down to the next person on the list (so 9th for instance).

For those that weren’t interested in qualifying there was also the chance to buy various convention exclusives and to take part in Battle Royales to win even more, so even if you don’t like hard core Heroclix tournaments there were plenty of chances to get something cool.

UK Nationals Qualifier Part 2

So this is the second tale of my trips around the UK, taking part in various qualifying tournaments leading up to the Nationals finals itself. The observant of you might have noticed a slight delay between my last article and this one. Well I must confess I had a bit of trouble writing this section, for reasons that will hopefully become clear!

Qualifier 2: Modern Age Constructed at Wayland’s Forge in Birmingham

So my I planned my trip to me second qualifying event. This would be my first trip to the store in Birmingham that could be found inside an old Custard Factory. I have to get a special mention here to the organiser: Anthony Chilton – who was able to provide me some excellent directions from the train station including a whole bunch of pictures he’d taken and replied to any questions I had.

So I packed up a few teams so I could decide on the day and headed off. Now here is where we get to the big heroclix quandary: My team was one that I’d played once a couple of days before (Though it did use some figures I really liked and had been playing with a lot). It also turned out to be quite good. More importantly than that I really enjoyed playing my games with it. So much so that I decided that it was going to be the team I took to the Nationals Final. So now I had to decide if I wanted to write about it here or save it up as a nice surprise at the end of May.

In the end I decided I’m going to keep it under my hat for a little while. This of course will make any game reports quite hard to write! I do have the notes I took so I will see about adding some more details later but for now I just have to say thanks to Neil, Chris, Darren, Scott and Rhys for some entertaining games. Thanks all for taking things in a good spirit. Congratulations to Darren for winning the qualifying slot.

UK Heroclix National Qualifiers (And Finals!)

Hi there! For those that don’t know me, my name is Felix and I’ve been playing Heroclix for a long time. My first ever figure was a Veteran Ultimates Ghost Rider that a friend gave to me and that was enough to get me started and I’ve never really stopped.

Last year we had a really big resurgence in big organised Heroclix in the UK. Starting with the ROC we also had UK nationals for the first time in ages (with qualifiers for both) and a few other events like Clix for Cancer. I think these are a great opportunity to meet and play against lots of different people, see some interesting teams and generally have fun playing Heroclix so I went to as many as I could.

This year the first big event we have are the UK nationals, once again with a series of qualifying events and I decided once again that I was going to go to as many as I could and hopefully play in the nationals again. And to hopefully inspire some of you to attend at least one (and maybe give you some advice that helps you win!)I also decided to write down how I did each time.
